Xena’s Family
My family, my home – it was meant to be!
Hi, it’s Xena, the 7 month old puppy that was found as a stray in the Lake Elsinore area and no one came to the shelter to claim me. I ended up getting sick in the shelter and was in quarantine so no one from the public could visit me. Thank goodness that rescues could visit with me though because one day, a nice man from German Shepherd Safe Haven came to see me. He took me outside and evaluated me and I guess I did really good because he decided to pull me from the shelter. I was so relieved!! I was safe and knew I was not going to die in the shelter.
When I arrived at my foster dad’s home, I was so excited because there were so many dogs there to play with! I became friends with everyone but my favorite playmates were Whitney and Tigger. They really know how to play well with dogs. I also got to visit Aunt Sandra’s a few times and play with Eli. I was having so much fun staying with my foster dad! Aunt Jill said she wanted to foster me for a couple weeks though so I wasn’t sure how that was going to be. But I had nothing to worry about. She has a big yard and two really cool dogs that loved to play. I got to go for long hikes in the forest off leash and I was really good girl because I stayed on the trail. It was really fun staying with Aunt Jill for those couple weeks because it was like a vacation for me. After, I went back to stay at my foster dad’s house. I missed Aunt Jill and Uncle Reid because they were so nice to me and made me feel comfortable and a part of their family but it was back to fun & games with my friends at my foster dad’s. A couple weeks later, my foster dad took me to a meet & greet at a park. Aunt Jen met us there. We met with this nice lady and stayed there and visited her for a while. She thought I was sweet and would make a good addition to her family. Both my foster dad and Aunt Jen thought that her family would be a great fit for me but I still had to meet their dog, two cats and her husband first to make sure we all hit it off. The home visit and next meeting was going to be in a couple of weeks.
That day came faster than I thought! I was excited because I love making new friends but I was going to miss my foster dad and all the dogs at his house. It was bittersweet leaving them all but I knew that this was going to be a wonderful home for me. When we got to my new home, my new mommy and daddy came out to greet me and my new daddy fell in love with me immediately! He went back inside to get his dog, Lukas, to see if we would get along. Lukas came out and made a big deal about me until he realized I was a girl and he starting settling down. We all went for a walk through the neighborhood and needless to say, I won Lukas over too! After our walk, we went back to the house to meet the cats, Dora Jane and Chop. Dora Jane just ran into the other room to hide and Chop just wanted to play with me. My new parents were amazed at how good I got along with everyone. It’s not only because I am a friendly girl but also because this home was meant for me. I already felt like I belonged after being there for less than an hour. It’s just that feeling you get when you know you’re home. That was the feeling this family gave me and I love them so much for it! I am home!!
