Whitney’s Family
I am the Princess in my new home!
Remember me? Whitney, the fearful and aggressive girl that was put into quarantine and could not be viewed by the general public at the shelter. Well that all changed when a nice man came to visit me to see if the reputation the shelter gave me was true. At first, I was wary of him so I was not very nice but he stayed and talked to me and I realized that he was actually a good person so I let my guard down and showed him who I really am, a sweet, good girl that was just scared of being in the shelter. After that, he knew there was no way he could leave me there so he rescued me, took me to the groomers for a bath and to get all those awful ticks off of me and then he brought me to his home. I liked being there because there were dogs there I can play with and be myself. I went to a couple of adoption events to meet people and show what a good girl I am but not too much came from those events. But that was okay because my foster dad assured me that finding the right home for me would take time.
So I was patient and sure enough, an application came in from a family interested in me. My foster dad talked to them on the phone and told them my story and they wanted to set up a meet & greet with me at a nearby park. I was a little nervous because this family had another dog and I was just hoping that she would be nice so I would not have show her that I am not a pushover. My foster dad & I got to the park and we walked around first so I could calm my nerves. The family was already there waiting to meet me. After I calmed down a bit, we walked up to them so I could meet the whole family and their dog, Evie. Everyone was nice but they were worried about whether I would get along with Evie. Adam, their son, played ball with me for a little bit and I had fun fetching the ball because he would throw it pretty far. After getting some exercise, Evie and I tried to feel each other out some more to see if we could be play buddies. It was hard to say because we had just met so my foster dad suggested the family do the foster to adopt program to see if Evie & I would ultimately get along. They agreed so the next weekend, we went to their home to do the home inspection and Evie & I could hang out again. We got along much better because we remembered each other and were no longer strangers.
For the next week or so, I got to go on car rides to new places, Adam took me for a lot of walks and I played fetch every day. I even got to sleep on my new foster mom and dad’s bed, right in the middle! And when they’re in the living room watching tv, the ottoman was place I picked to hang out and sleep while I kept them company. Christmas with the family was a lot of fun too. And what about me & Evie? Well, we started playing really well together. I figured out how to play with her because she was so much smaller than me. I would lay on my back and roll around on the floor and she would do most of the work when we played together which she didn’t mind. I was really bonding with everyone here and was hoping that they would adopt me.
The next week, my old foster dad came for a visit and I was kind of nervous because I thought he was there to come pick me up. I wasn’t sure how to act towards him because I wanted to be excited to see him but I also wanted him to know how happy I was in this home. I was really hoping he was here to finalize the adoption because I loved this family. And guess what, that was exactly why he was there. The paperwork was filled out and signed and just like that, I was adopted! I was really excited! My new mom took some photos of me and my old foster dad outside and while I was sitting next to him, I was thinking, if it was not for him, I may not have made it out of the shelter alive. I was a little sad and I think he was too but I knew he wanted the best for me and this was my new family and he was very happy that they found me. When it was time to say goodbye, he said to me, you be a very good girl and I will love you forever my sweet girl. We walked back into the house and I was smiling thinking this is my forever home and I am going to have a wonderful forever life!
