Baxter’s Family

Here we go again!

Hello, remember me, Baxter, the really laid back boy. I was initially adopted out to a wonderful family that loved me for almost two years then we found out that the home we were living in was sold and we had to be out within 3 weeks. It was a very hard decision for my family to make but they decided to have me live with uncle Tom for awhile. Uncle Tom and Aunt Jen came to pick me up and it was so hard for my family to say goodbye to me and watch me leave without them. They loved me so much and I loved them too. I wasn’t sure what was going on but I heard them say thanks for taking care of Baxter so I thought I would be okay for a couple of months.

I spent the first couple of nights with Aunt Jen and that was good because I was the only dog there so I had her full attention like what I was used to. But that changed when I went to Uncle Tom’s to stay. There were so many dogs there and I was trying to adjust to being a part of a big pack as well as my new surroundings. It wasn’t easy though because I came from an only dog home and it was all about me. Now I had to share the attention with everyone else. I did try to play sometimes but ended up trying to be boss and got a little too rough with the other dogs. I kept trying to learn and figure out where my place was in the pack and it was frustrating. I was glad that I was safe in Uncle Tom’s home but I wasn’t too happy to be part of such a big pack. It just wasn’t me.

So one day, Uncle Tom had a talk with my old family about me and how his home wasn’t the best environment for me long term. That got me worried because I wasn’t sure what that meant for me. But everyone wanted to do what was best for me and they came to the conclusion to surrender me back to GSSH so a new forever home could be found for me. I was sad because it meant that I was not going to see my wonderful family again but I wanted to be positive about it. When one door closes, another will open. I believed that. So Uncle Tom became foster daddy again and we went through the whole preparing for adoption thing again. I got new photos taken of me and an updated bio posted online. Not long after I was available for adoption again, an adoption application came in for me. My foster dad said it looked promising so he scheduled a meet & greet at the park. When we got there, I saw a nice lady and I knew immediately that I liked her. She came with her friend to meet me and her friend was really nice too. I went for a walk and was really hoping that she liked me. We spent an hour getting to know each other and I could tell that I won them both over! She told my foster dad that she wanted to do the foster to adopt program to make sure we were a good fit for each other. He said he still had to do a reference check and a home visit but if everything went well, then we’ll do the foster to adopt.

The next weekend, we loaded up the car and went to my new foster home. We got there and it was fun to see everyone again. Everything checked out fine and the paperwork was signed. The next couple of weeks was fun with my new foster mom. I got to go on long walks and go meet a lot of different people. I met all the guys with the local police K9 unit and they approved of me but of course, I was on my best behavior. I wanted to make my foster mom proud! I was adjusting to my new home and life well and my foster mom was falling for me fast. She was still concerned that I wouldn’t get along with my feline buddies but little did she know how comfortable I am around cats, they make great friends to hang out with! I just had to convince the cats that I’m one of the good dogs. Tigger was the one that I might have had an issue with because he just wanted to be the top cat in the house so he would hiss and meow at me. I knew what he was doing and so I just ignored it. For the next week, I just ignored the cats and let them check me out. They realized that I wasn’t a threat for them and they started to accept me.

One Sunday, I was just laying around and the door bell rang and it was my old foster dad and Aunt Jen. I was kinda surprised to see them but they had a clipboard and a box. I knew what that meant! I got really excited and happy because they were here to finalize my adoption! I was thrilled that I was going to stay here for the rest of my life! The paperwork was filled and signed and we went outside to take photos again to commemorate the big day. I scored again and was so happy that my new mom wanted to adopt me. I know I’m going to have a wonderful life with her and I couldn’t be happier!
