Kingston’s Family
Life is so wonderful because I found my home!
Hi, it is me, Kingston. Wow, it has been an exciting 10 months! My happy ever after story started when my mom Lacey and I wandered into a yard and a nice person took us in. It was a relief because we were on the streets for a very long time and were in pretty bad shape. We were taken to a vet clinic where we met more nice people who cleaned us up, fed us and helped us start getting healthy again. One of my favorite people there is Aunt Kelly because she introduced us to German Shepherd Safe Haven. A couple of people from Safe Haven came to meet us and little did I know that they would become my foster mom and dad. They looked past our shyness and uncertainty and saw something special in the both of us so they agreed to take us into the rescue. We had to wait though so they could make sure that we did not belong to anyone. So we stayed at the clinic for another month, got a couple more baths and got healthy. No one came forward to claim us so finally we were able to join Safe Haven. My new foster dad came to pick us up and he brought Lacey to my foster mom’s house first and then he took me to his house. I was worried about not having Lacey with me because she protected me my whole life but all the new dogs I met in my foster dad’s home kept me busy! It was fun learning how to play with everyone. I also started learning what it means to be a part of a pack and how to be more independent. I was still shy and scared sometimes with new people and places so I usually got overlooked at adoption events. My social skills were a work in progress so my foster dad brought me to Aunt Tricia’s home to live for a little while so I could socialize more with different people and dogs in another safe, loving environment. I learned a lot staying there and I was getting better and better about not being so shy and scared of things. I made really great progress so it was no problem for me to handle the next move I made. I went to live at my foster mom’s house and you know what that means — I was reunited with my mom Lacey!! Boy I was so happy and excited to see her and show her what a grown up boy I became! She was doing great too and we became the best play buddies ever. Who knew moms could be so fun to play with! I loved being with her again so I didn’t mind too much that it was taking a little longer to find the right forever home for me. I did do a few meet & greets but those families just weren’t the right fit for me.
One day, my foster mom and dad took me to a park for another meet & greet with a young man who was excited to meet me. He was interested in fostering me before adopting to make sure we are good for each other. My foster mom & dad had a good feeling that this was the home I’ve been waiting for. I was on my best behavior when I met him and what was cool was he was there with three other dogs that live in the same house as him. I love meeting new dogs now because I like to be friends and be play buddies. Anyway, we all took a walk together and got along really well. The park was really close to their house so we walked all the way home and once we got there, I got a chance to explore the house and check out the big backyard. I really thought I could have a great time living here. And I was right! My new foster dad took such good care of me. I go on lots of walks and I even go jogging which is fun because I really get to stretch my legs! I have so much fun during play time in the backyard too. One of my favorite things to do is play frisbee. I catch it most of the time and I look really cool when I do. After being there for a few weeks, my foster dad decided it was time to make me officially a part of his family. He couldn’t wait any longer and neither could I. In the short time I was with him, I knew that he would be the best dad for me. He loves me as much as I love him. So my old foster mom and dad came by one day and all the paperwork was done. The search for my forever home was finally over and I am so excited to start the rest of my life with my new dad!
