Chloe’s Family

From an unwanted project dog to a happy princess!

Hi, it’s me, Chloe, the dog that was dropped off at the shelter because my owner did not want me anymore. The shelter called GSSH to see if they could take me because there was no interest in me and they were going to put me to sleep. My future foster dad put a hold on me so he could come evaluate me. When the shelter worker took me out, I was so scared. I dropped to the floor several times because I thought he was going to hit me because that is what my old owners did to me. I am a very sweet and loving girl but was just really scared and he realized that so he rescued me. My new foster dad loaded me up in the car and we took the long ride home. When we got to my foster home, there were a lot of dogs there and I was scared, I just was not sure about having all the dogs around me because it was really hard for me to trust anyone. I realized that some of the dogs felt the same way as me but no matter what, we were all safe in the foster home and that’s what mattered. My foster dad worked with me every day on building trust because I did not seem to trust anyone. I started to learn that my foster brothers and sisters were not going to hurt me, they just wanted to play with me. After a couple of weeks, I also learned that people were not all bad and started to trust again.

I was finally ready to go to adoption events and they were fun. I met people that just wanted to love me and give me attention. It gave me confidence that I can be myself and not worry about someone being mean to me. I got to go to the three day Pet Expo event and at first, I didn’t know what to think because there were so many people, dogs and noises but I eventually settled down and relaxed a bit. A nice family came by to visit me on one of the days and I spent a lot of time with them. They were so nice to me and wanted to really get to know me. They asked Aunt Jen a lot of questions about me and about German Shepherds and I thought that was a good sign because it meant that they were really interested in me! I thought, oh my gosh, this might be it, I might find my forever home after all. I was keeping my paws crossed…oh wait, I would be acting like Emily so I just did it in my crate when nobody was looking. Well crossing my paws worked! A home inspection was scheduled and I guess that went well because my foster dad told me the good news, that this family wanted to foster to adopt me!

I was excited and scared all at the same time because I thought, how am I suppose to act and what if I don’t like their home and what if they don’t like me? But I’ll never know until I give it a try so the day finally came for me to go to my new foster home. We arrived and boy, were they excited to see me! They had everything ready for me, a crate, toys and treats! I checked out the whole house and even did my business in the backyard which made everyone proud of me. The paperwork was filled out and we all took a walk down to the nearby park to go over some training tips. After that, it was just me and my new foster family! It sure is nice to be the only dog in the house and to be treated like a princess! My new foster mom works from home so I get to lay at her feet while she works. It is so cool because we take lunch breaks together and I get to go outside for other short breaks too and then I go back to work with my mommy.

We had a big mother’s day celebration not too long after I came to stay and I got to meet my human brother’s dog and everyone else in the family. It was so much fun and I was such a good girl. Did I tell you how much I love my new family? I love them!! I could not wait until the next week because I just knew they were going to adopt me. Well, the next week, Tom and Jen came to visit and I’m a smart girl, I knew they were here not just for a visit but to also finalize my adoption! I was really excited to see them and could not wait to get the paperwork done to make my adoption official. The paperwork was completed and I totally forgot that we had to take pictures and you know how much I love taking pictures, NOT!! So I decided to run around the yard and see if we could get a game of chase going instead so they will forget about the picture taking. Well that didn’t work though everyone laughed at my playful behavior. I finally settled down so we could get a couple of pictures but that’s it, I rather play than take pictures! Anyway, I will admit now that I am glad we do have pictures of that special day because it’s one of the best days of my life!
