I Beat All the Odds!

Hello, it’s me, Wrangler, the aggressive, unpredictable and fearful boy that was at the shelter that everyone passed up because I was too big and scary looking. But one day, I got excited because there was someone who was actually interested in meeting me. Being labeled aggressive at the shelter is pretty much a death sentence so I was hoping that this was my chance out of that scary place. A nice guy came and had me out of my kennel and he temperament tested me. He understood me and knew at heart, I was a really good boy so he decided to take me. He picked me up after I was neutered and I started not feeling well after the surgery. The next couple days were rough because I was starting to get really sick. My foster dad took me to Dr. Simon and I was running a 104.8 temperature and my lungs did not sound good either. So I stayed at the animal hospital for the rest of the day to have fluids administered. I had to go back there several more days after and be in isolation. Everyone was so worried about me and there were even really nice people who never met me but donated for my care!! I was fighting hard to get well and after about a week, my fever finally broke and I started feeling much better. It took a little while longer but eventually I made a full recovery. And you know what that means…I got to finally discover what being a dog was all about! Playtime with the other fosters, toys, balls, bones – it didn’t get any better than that!

As much fun as I was having in my foster home, I knew that the ultimate goal was to find the right forever family for a special boy like me. To help with that process, I went to a three day adoption event called the Pet Expo and it was overwhelming! But I did a pretty good job at keeping my cool and it turned out that I was the star of the show! There were many people interested in me and quite a few applications came in for me. I knew it was going to be a hard decision to see who will be the best fit for me but finally a decision was made. I had met so many people so I wasn’t sure who my forever family would be but I was excited to find out! We went for a long car ride and finally arrived at my new home. My new mom and dad were waiting for me and were so happy to see me! I checked out my home and had lots of fun running around the backyard. The adoption paperwork was completed and I was officially adopted!

Just when you think my happily ever after story ends there, guess what, I’ve got more to tell you! My new parents knew I was a special boy the minute they met me. It wasn’t just that they fell in love with me; they saw that I had great potential to do wonderful things in this world. So after my adoption, we enrolled in service dog training and of course, completed the program! I am now a certified service dog…the dog that was once labeled aggressive and unpredictable. I’m proof that you can’t believe everything that you’re told! I can’t wait to show the world all the good things I will accomplish in my life!
