Ulani’s Family
My journey to my forever home!
Hi, I am Ulani, the puppy that needed an experienced owner. Well guess what, I found them! Yeah, it took me long enough but I finally found the best fit for me. It all started at the shelter where my daddy’s brother was going to turn me in. Our friend Magen who volunteers there saw me and called Safe Haven to ask if they could take me in because she knew it would be hard for a puppy like me to be at the shelter. It was my lucky day because they had a foster home that could take care of me so they said yes! I had so much fun in my foster home but at the same time, I learned a lot about how to be a good dog. I am a pretty strong willed puppy but I couldn’t fool my foster mom with any of my shenanigans, she was so smart! She was one tough cookie but it was what I needed so I could learn good habits. I stayed with her for a little over a month then I went to stay at a new foster home which was cool with me because I got to meet more dogs and play a lot with them. But what I really wanted was to find my forever home.
One day, I went to a park to meet a couple who saw me on the website. They brought their dog with them because they wanted to see if we would all get along. I was a little nervous because I knew this could be a possible forever family for me. We spent a while at the park and I started to relax and really enjoyed hanging out with the couple. Their dog was interested in me but he didn’t really want to play yet. I think he just wanted to get to know me first. I thought the meet & greet went good and was hoping that we would do the next step which is the home inspection. I got my wish the following weekend! My foster dad and mom took me with them on the home visit so I got a chance to hang out with the couple and their dog again and see what could possibly be my forever home. I had so much fun playing with toys and balls that were in the house. Even their dog was interested in playing toys with me. I was winning him over but who would have doubted that I would? I’m irresistible!
Well the next week, I came back and I realized it was because this family was going to foster to adopt me to make sure we are all a good fit for each other. I was really excited because I really liked them but at the same time, I was a little scared because I was moving into a new home with a new family and wasn’t too sure what to expect. But all that worry wasn’t necessary because every day was full of fun and learning. I get to go on at least three walks a day and have lots of play time along with training sessions with my foster parents. I sure slept well at night! My old foster dad and mom came down for a visit a few weeks a later to check in on me. If they think everything is going well, they were going to finalize my adoption. When they came over, I was really happy to see them and show them how good things were going. My family loves me and I love them and they could see that. Guess what that meant? The paperwork was done and I was officially adopted and I now have a family of my very own! I am one very happy puppy!!
