Four Paws, One Heart: The Lacey Story

Lacey, our sweetheart of a girl, had to have emergency surgery Monday afternoon to remove a tumor. She had shown no symptoms of any problems until Sunday when she kept getting sick and just wanted to rest in her crate. We took her to the vet first thing Monday morning to get checked out and after doing x-rays, running tests to check for infections and doing an ultrasound, we found out what was wrong. The radiologist found a tumor that had grown to a size that created a complete blockage in her intestines. It appeared to be a carcinoma and she needed surgery as soon as possible.

Dr. Horn and his team at OC Veterinary Medical Center performed the surgery and it was a success! The tumor was removed and there were no other visible masses so it had not spread. The tumor has been sent in for a biopsy so we will know soon what kind of tumor it was and if further medical treatment is necessary. Lacey spent Monday night and most of today at the hospital while the staff monitored her recovery. She was discharged late this afternoon and is back in her foster home resting. She is doing well, tired but alert and in good spirits. We cannot thank Dr. Horn and his staff enough for taking such great care of our girl. Everyone there has been so caring and kind and we are so fortunate to have them as a part of our veterinary network.

We want to thank all our supporters and donors for your generous contributions to our rescue. It is because of you that we were able to take care of Lacey and get her the surgery she needed quickly.
